The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will raise the current deposit insurance limit of $100,000, enacted in 1980, to $250,000. (100,000 1980 dollars was worth 251,689 2007 dollars or NT$8 million). This move is to encourage people to put more savings in their bank accounts.
